Rob at the State Fair Drinking a Summit

Rob in his Happy Place, Drinking a Summit outdoors

I am a forty something beer lover from the upper midwest, Minneapolis metro area specifically. I went to college in a small Wisconsin town, UW-Stout in Menomonie, this is where my beer passion began. Now by and large the beer I was drinking wasn’t anything to write home about, however their were a few opportunities to imbibe on “good” beer. One of these opportunities was early in my drinking career, “Green Bottle Night” at the Marion Bar, for the price of $1.00 you could drink ANY imported beer. I gravitated toward the Canadian lagers of the day, Molson and Moosehead. However, you could drink ALL imported beer from San Miguel of the Philippines to Heineken. This was my favorite college beer special. Fast forward a few years and I was introduced to Coors’ own Killian’s Red Ale, which was my first NON-Lager beer and I liked it. From there, I went on to Sam Adams Boston Lager and after graduation in the early nineties I discovered Summit. My tongue never enjoyed a beer more than that first taste of Summit and from that point on my fate was sealed to seeking and drinking craft beers. In the early 2000′s my brother moved to Seattle and I was introduced to the great beers of the Pacific Northwest: Pike, Bridgeport, Hale’s Ales, Red Hook, Pyramid, etc. Back home in Minnesota, breweries began and still are popping up all over and that is why I started this blog. The intent is to introduce the best beers available in the area, events for tastings, and great places to enjoy craft beer. I hope you enjoy my writings and CHEERS!!

  1. Hey Rob,

Thanks for the highlight of Hop Manna? Can you change the spelling of Shmaltz, there is no letter “c” in Shmaltz Brewing.

    Thanks!

    • Jesse,

I am truly SORRY about that, being from Minnesota, I guess I think ALL names need to be spelled “SCH”, I have updated the post so that it will appear correctly on the site. I am embarassed, THANK YOU for pointing out the misspelling…funny thing is I was drinking the beer as I was writing(I guess I have autocorrect in my head!)…I hate spelling errors…

      Thanks and please return again!

      ROB
