For ONE THIN AMERICAN DOLLAR, can anyone in Beer North Nation identify the artist of the title of this post? Sorry Vice President of Blog Development is ineligible. Anyways, I missed a few posts last week due to our last chance vacation in the Dells. I had a great time in the sun and water while enjoying a few beers that are NOT available to the Beer North market.

New Glarus Brewing – Spotted Cow
N/A ABV
N/A IBU

This is of those Out of Market beer stat you have to cross the river to enjoy. It is a farmhouse style ale that I found to be refreshing and satisfying after 4 hours in the van. It is different than other farmhouse ales as it has a sweetness to it that isn’t overpowering. New Glarus describes it this way: “Cask conditioned ale has been the popular choice among brews since long before prohibition. We continue this pioneer spirit with our Wisconsin farmhouse ale. Brewed with flaked barley and the finest Wisconsin malts. We even give a nod to our farmers with a little hint of corn. Naturally cloudy we allow the yeast to remain in the bottle to enhance fullness of flavors, which cannot be duplicated otherwise. Expect this ale to be fun, fruity and satisfying. You know you’re in Wisconsin when you see the Spotted Cow.”

Lake Louie Brewing – Kiss the Lips IPA
6.2% ABV
31 ABV

Enjoyed this beer at the Kalahari Resort Water Park at the coolest “tiki” bar I’ve ever seen. Like everything at the Kalahari the bar is GIGANTIC. I would describe this beer as a traditional British style IPA as evidenced by the IBU. I was under the sun in 90+ degree heat and I found it easy to enjoy. May not have been able to say that with say HopSlam… Once again another Wisconsin beer NOT available here, but you may want to seek it out if you find yourself in Central Wisconsin.

New Glarus Brewing – Totally Naked
N/A ABV
N/A IBU

Described by New Glarus as a Wisconsin Lager, picked this up at a gas station/pharmacy/convenience store. I LOVE WISCONSIN and their liberal alcohol laws. Why is it that we can’t purchase beer EVERYWHERE(NOT 3.2 either)? This beer is very refreshing and is one you should check out when you can.

Dells Brewing – Rustic Red
5% ABV
N/A IBU

I found a microbrewery in the Dells! More of a Brew Pub than a microbrewery as they currently bottle this style only. However, growlers were available and if I was staying longer I would’ve gotten one. I found it to be a very good red ale that I enjoyed. “The caramel & aromatic Munich malts used in this medium-bodied, amber-colored ale give it a smooth drinkability & sweet, malty finish.” per Dells Brewing Company. if you are on a family vacation in the Dells, look up Moosejaw and check out there beers and the food was very good as well!

Dells Brewing – Kilbourn Hop Ale
5.5% ABV
N/A IBU

“This medium-bodied amber ale has a pleasant hop flavor & aroma. Locally grown hops are harvested from Brownie Zinke’s Hop Farm & are used to create this one-of-a-kind ale.” Per the Moosejaw website. I enjoyed a flight of their beers along with the V.P. This one paired well with my Friday Night Fish Fry. It wasn’t as hoppy as I had expected and it was actually very smooth.

Dells Brewing – American IPA
6.1% ABV
N/A IBU

Once agin this was part of the flight I enjoyed, this American IPA had strong citrus, grapefruit flavors that were quite good. “Our American India Pale Ale, or IPA, is more flavorful than the traditional English version. This light orangish golden brew is all about the hops, but is pleasantly balanced with Pale Ale Malt. It exudes the flavor & aroma of juicy lip-smacking citrus fruits like grapefruit, lemon, apricot & passion fruit.” as described by Moosejaw website.

Potosi Brewing – Snake Hollow IPA
N/A ABV
N/A IBU

Believe it or NOT got a build your own 6 pack at the same gas station as I described earlier. WHY, Why, why? This was an easy to drink West Coast IPA, that isn’t overly hoppy. “Snake Hollow is a West Coast style IPA. It’s a medium bodied beer with a pine and citrus aroma that results in a slight hint of a grapefruit flavor and a lingering bitter finish.” Check it out if you get a chance…

SORRY for ALL of the out of market beers, but that is what I drank this past week…

The VP liked the Moosejaw Pumpkin ale…just not with walleye. Maybe it would have tasted good with my pumpkin chocolate chip cookies or pumpkin bread…
Nice trip, if you like noisy waterparks. ;0)
I love any excuse to be with my Beer Dork!
Oh and thank you for not playing that song all the way to the Dells, there is only so much GD that I can handle.
