Third Street Brewhouse – Bitter Neighbor Black IPA
6.5% ABV
N/A IBU
Today is National IPA Day and in honor of that I have chosen a beer that is a brand new Minnesota brew. I also decided to choose an out of the ordinary IPA style, BLACK. I have had black IPA’s in the past ad have found them to be nothing more than a black lager, other than Odell’s Mountain Standard. Third Street Brewhouse is the newest brand for Cold Spring Brewing to make a splash in the craft beer market; and what a SPLASH it is, in my humble opinion! This is a beer that lives up to the name Black IPA as it has a bitter bite and yet is smooth. Bitter Neighbor pours BLACK and releases a more than generous frothy head. The smell reminds me of roasted coffee that gives way to wonderful a wonderful hop aroma. The flavor is bitter that has a pleasant finish and NO I am not going to try to pick out the individual flavors. According to the label, Cold Spring’s Third Street Brewhouse describes Bitter Neighbor this way: “You can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your family. You can pick where you live, but you can’t pick your neighbors. That is, until now, When you pick up a glass filled with frothy, dark-colored Bitter Neighbor Black IPA, it won’t leave a bad taste in your mouth. In fact, it’s quite good. (Sorry. We can’t help you with the family part.)” This is a beer that I will enjoy again and again, NICE WORK Third Street Brewhouse! Distribution is becoming larger and you shouldn’t have a hard time finding this beer, ENJOY and raise a glass to honor National IPA Day 2012!!
