Schell’s Brewing Company – Firebrick

I find it hard to believe that I haven’t introduced a beer from this brewery that is the second oldest family owned, continually operated brewery(2nd only to Yuengling) located in our backyard of New Ulm. I actually picked this bottle up last weekend across the border in Wisconsin. When I saw the bottle on the shelf it reminded me of sitting next to a sales rep from Great Lakes Brewing and telling me that if his beer isn’t available he reaches for this one. He told me this was his “gateway” beer into the world of craft beers. My memory is a bit foggy about this beer, but I am positive I had at least a 6 pack in the late 90′s(a lot of things were foggy in this period of my life). I was pleasantly surprised at the color and head of the beer as it poured out of the bottle. The flavor invites you to take another drink and I did. “Reddish-Amber hue. Carries a mild, pleasant maltiness with subtle sweetness and a light hoppy finish. A very drinkable, year round beer.” – per Schell’s website. Being that this will be a warm Labor Day Weekend, this is a perfect beer to drink, pick up a few and ENJOY, I sure DID!!
