Surly Brewing Company – CynicAle Belgian Style Saison Pale Ale
6.6% ABV
33 IBU
My plan was to open my bottle of a special collaboration that will have to wait until next week as I have run out of time for this post. As I was sitting at dinner I contemplated a beer I hadn’t ever had from a local brewery, I decided to give it a shot. My first impression was lukewarm, mostly because I wasn’t sure of the style. After consecutive tastes I began to appreciate this Belgian Style Saison Pale Ale. Once I realized it was a Saison, the subtle flavors began to show themselves to me. This is a fantastic beer to enjoy with just about any food as it doesn’t get in the way of whatever it is you are eating. I can also say this would be a great beer for cooling down after a workout or on the golf course. As Surly describes it: “Oh great, a fizzy yellow beer in a can, that’s just what the craft beer world needs! CynicAle melds Old World ingredients in a new school style. French malted barley, English oats and Belgian yeast create honey & black pepper flavors. Lively Slovenian hops provide the floral, apricot and peach notes. Toss your doubts away, toss one back and enjoy!” CynicAle is one of Surly’s year round brews so you shouldn’t have a hard time finding it at any local liquor store. I was lucky enough to have it on draft at Chianti Grill in Roseville, YUMMY!
